Trouble with Your Braces?

Posted .

Generally speaking, wearing braces is problem-free and just a matter of straightening your pearly whites. But sometimes an issue might crop up, and knowing what to do can make you more comfortable and avoid delaying your time in braces.

The key to staying on track with your treatment time is letting our office know if something out of the ordinary arises. We will determine if you need to come in sooner or if you can wait until your next appointment. While you are waiting to be seen, there are things you can do to ensure a comfortable journey:

1-One of your coil springs comes off.

If a coil spring comes off, you will want to hang onto the coil and call our office. We will determine if you need to come in before your next appointment, otherwise, the coil may be put back on during your next scheduled visit.

2-One of the archwires comes out of a bracket.

If an archwire accidentally comes out of a bracket, you can try inserting the wire back into the tube using tweezers. You can also place wax on the wire to reduce contact with oral tissue.

3-One of your brackets come loose.

If a bracket comes loose, you can place wax over the bracket. However, if the bracket actually falls off, please put it in a safe place and bring it in at your next scheduled appointment.

4-One of your wires pop out and is poking you.

If a wire pop out and you can feel it poking the soft tissues in the mouth, you can flatten the wire against the tooth. Pencil erasers or Q-tips can be used to do the trick. You can also press orthodontic wax over the wire so that it doesn’t rub or irritate your soft tissues.
